George Vollick (1933 – 2023)



He stood aside watching and waiting. When He saw George could not go on, He silently took his hand and said “It’s time”
On August 12, 2023 at the age of 90, husband, father, grandpa & great grandpa closed his eyes and followed Him. John George Vollick passed away peacefully at Huronview Home for the Aged, Clinton, On.


Leaving to celebrate his life is his wife of 67 years, Alma, his children Tony (Lynn), Pauline (Larry), Eileen (Ron), grandchildren Angie (Jon), Adam (Sheila), Dawn (Jesse), Danielle (Ryan), Jack (Crystal) great grandchildren Hendrix, Rhys, Sloan, Keiran, Aubrey, Charley & Andie. He is predeceased by his parents Harvey & Wilda, sister Yvonne, parents’ in-law Max & Hettie Bennett.


George was born and raised on a farm close to Mildmay, On. Later he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Winnipeg, Mb. For 10 years. While in the air force he worked as an airplane mechanic and was a drummer in the marching band. He met and married Alma during his air force years and together they moved to Mildmay and farmed for 5 years before relocating to Goderich in 1966. George tried his hand at a few different careers before he settled at Champion Road Machinery. He started in production and was later transferred to the Service Dept. His accomplishments led to his final position of International Services Manager, travelling to many countries around the world servicing road graders until his retirement. George was a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He had his pilot’s licence and spent many hours in the sky flying his Piper Cub & Cessna airplanes. He also enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Huron. He spent his retirement years woodworking in his shop lovingly crafting many items for family, friends and St. George’s Anglican Church. George touched the lives of many who will miss him dearly. A Memorial Service will be held at the McCallum & Palla Funeral Home, Goderich on Friday September 8, 2023 at 1:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to service time. Donations in George’s memory to St. George’s Anglican Church, Goderich are gratefully acknowledge.
